Running Free on the Fourth of July!

Happy Fourth! Did you run today?

I started my day with an early-morning run at Almaden Quicksilver park: a planned eight miles that turned into 11 because we missed a turn. Yes! We got to see more of this:[The first time I try the “Panorama” function on my phone. If only I didn’t repel technology…] But you get the idea! I even wore red, white and blue for the occasion:The white being my hydration belt (and socks, but they turned dirty-brown quite quickly.]

Let me tell you one thing: when going out on a trail run – or any run, really, where you know there aren’t water fountains – bring more water than you think you’d need. Things happen and you may end up running longer than anticipated – which can be super fun or a welcome challenge, but not if you run out of water early.

Just saying!Good thing those crazy trail paths were shady!

And a million thanks to my friend’s friend, who lives across the street from the park, and whose house we raided post-run to refill our bottles. Truly, a life saver!

Bursting into strangers’ homes, all sweaty and filthy, to raid their water supply: Just your typical holiday morning!

Before you laugh at the pace… do notice the total climb for that route:Almost 4,000 feet over 11 miles. How crazy is that? Possibly as crazy as showing your thang for all of San Jose below (and the mountain lions lurking in the shade) to see?Hope everyone had a great holiday!

Awesome trail run – that park looks like it needs to be checked out. And I always love dirty-leg shots…proof of a good run!
