Hello, ladies! I have something special for you: a chance to win a free entry to a See Jane Run race! (And while I only have one free entry to give away, anyone can use the coupon code below to get 25% off any See Jane Run event: a half marathon or 5K in the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Calif.), a half or 5K in Seattle, or the Women’s Triathlon & Duathlon in Shadow Cliffs, Calif. How’s that for an awesome deal?)

See Jane Run’s mission is to empower women of all ages, athletic ability and size through running and sports – and they do an amazing job at that through their events. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself with a new distance, to PR, to complete a triathlon or simply to have fun with your BRFs – or all of the above! – you will find yourself in the right place at a SJR race.

Since 2012, I’ve run the SJR half in Alameda twice, and I’ve completed the SJR triathlon twice (read my recaps of the 2013 and the 2014 tri races, and the 2013 half marathon), so you could say I’m no newb to their events. Yet, each time I’m so impressed and surprised, really, at how different they are, compared with most “regular,” co-ed races.

Instead of nerves at the start, there are smiles, hugs and a fun group-dance warm-up; and on the course, in place of the competitiveness is camaraderie and the heartfelt support of others. They’re not your competitors, they’re your partners in fun and badassery! It’s as if all these women athletes have one end goal, really: to go out there with friends and family and enjoy life — while kicking ass, of course — and then celebrate all that with a glass of champagne and a bite (or three) of delicious chocolate.

Sound like something you’d enjoy? Here is your chance to score a free entry — and my chance to make one person happy this year! I’ll contact the winner on April 6!

I did this one a few years ago. Great fun! Might be time to try it again!

I am excited to RUN again, last Summer 2014 I experienced a painful foot injury called plantar fascistic (PF)…I had not been able to run or participate in any races for 8 months which made me so depressed/frustrated. As a runner mama I love to get out running to feel the peace and keep my mind off stressful things. My goals are staying as a fit mama to my two boys (ages 8/6) by going back to run during my leisure time, participate some races (esp the Half)…and training for my very FIRST full Marathon in Morgan HIll. I am going to take it easy…I don’t want to experience the PF injury again. I am hoping this free entry gives me a chance to spark my love in running…I haven’t done SJR before. It will be my first time. Thanks!

This is fantastic! I’ve wanted to participate in an SJR race for a while! This will give me a good reason to get back into shape – I have fallen out of running (crazy work hours) but really want to get back into it. This will certainly be motivating!

Hope you find your mojo soon, Carden! I find the best way to cope with crazy work hours/ schedules is to take 30 minutes during lunch and go for a run! 😉

I recommend both the Alameda half and the triathlon, Rosemary – great location for both, great atmosphere! Best of luck – and even if you don’t with the free entry this time, the 25% off coupon is a pretty good deal!

I suffer from clumsiness issues as well 😉 Current ailment is a huge bruise on the shin from walking into the open dishwasher. Hope your foot heals quickly and it doesn’t prevent you from training/ running!

It’s possible we have matching shins! I was loading junk into the back of a truck for a dump run and stepped on part of a futon frame that didn’t want to go…bamo onto the other leg had enough to bruise the bone. Swelling so bad 3 weeks later socks n pants still hurt to touch the skin!
I backed off training (makes me very stabby) but at least I had 3 5 K’s but w/my daughter so the slow pace was ok…but my heart wanted to throw on head phones and run. Some moving is better than none!
So my health goal so far, is to just go around solid objects for at least 6 months!
